Their expressive fairies jump off the page and demand attention! Oh, what stories they can tell you? Have a read and meet the inspiring artist behind @LYNDEZART
Welcome Madelyn!
Tell us who you are and what you do creatively?
I'm Madelyn Hernandez (they/them), my friends just call me Mad! I'm an illustrator who creates fantasy art, primarily work with the fae. I've been drawing fairies since I was a kid and it's what I'm best known for now as an adult.
I work digitally and traditionally, using Procreate with apple pencil or watercolor, ink, and graphite.
Fairy element?
Cosmic!
Favorite flower?
It's a tie between roses and hydrangeas- both very comfortable for naps.
As a fairy do you live by the river, mountains, jungle, fields, or another place?
I'm city fairy. Yes, there are fairies in all places! Fairies exist wherever feelings can be felt. Plus public transportation saves on flying energy.
When you close your eyes and imagine your wingspan, what type of wings do you have? Dragonfly, Butterfly, Etherial…or other?
Other. My wings are an assortment of branches. Some budding with new leaves, and others mildly burned and irreparable.
I‘m a huge fan of your artwork. Your fairies really come to life on paper and seem to have big personalities. Can you share a little bit about what inspires you to create them?
I appreciate that! Brown Sugar Fairies is one of my favorite Instagrams and I feel so honored that I'm even on your radar.
I pick up inspiration here and there! When I was younger, my friends would buy me books about fairies and that encouraged me to continue to draw them. As an adult, my inspiration does not come from other fairy work. Instead it's inspired by interpersonal distress and wonder. And you may ask what that has to do with fairies, but it is a firm belief of mine that whenever a feeling is strongly felt, a fairy is born near by. My inspiration comes from profound regret. My inspiration comes from fits of rage. It comes from elation, all types of love, and passively expressed desires.
Do you have a daily ritual that helps keep you grounded?
I do! Every morning before work I light a candle and meditate for 10 minutes to recenter myself. Afterwards, I do yoga to assess how my body is feeling. I get to work at least 40 minutes early and read. This combination of mind and body work keeps me grounded in Source Energy and in alignment with the Universe and my purpose, which is to create.
Would you say that you chose your passion, or did it choose you?
It definitely chose me. When people ask me how I come up with the different designs for my fairies or why they're even my subject focus, I have to REACH to think of an answer other than "They just pop up in my head." And they've been popping up in my head for so long now that at this point it doesn't seem like a choice at all. There's a real possibility I'm doing this against my will. But no worries, I'm having a good time.
What is one song you listen to that 9 times out of 10 will uplift your spirit?

You and your fairies are a joy Madelyn! Thank you for sharing with us. Do you have any upcoming projects or products that you want to let us know about?
I have some projects I can't talk about just yet! My ambition this year is to release a book, the first volume of my fairy work. And I was nervous to mention that, but I could use the encouragement (or pressure). I'm about to re-open commissions and I'm in the planning stages of an online store for my Originals and signed prints. I have older work on products available through Redbubble and Society6, but those will be coming down soon to make room for more recent fairies wishing to be perceived!
